Habits
Each habit is a scan you can run in the first seconds of a position. WayChess drills that scan on many puzzles so it is available in games, not only when a puzzle tells you “find the tactic”.
- Attacked pieces — every attack on your pieces and on the opponent’s
- Undefended pieces — pieces that are not protected
- Walking into an attack — moves that hang a piece
- Abandoned defence — a move that leaves a piece undefended
- X-ray — a line of attack through another piece
- Useful x-ray — x-rays that actually matter
- Vertical fork — two targets on a file for a rook (or queen)
- Knight fork — two pieces a knight can attack from one square
- Bishop diagonal — two pieces a bishop can fork on a diagonal
- Advanced pawn — a pawn close to promotion
- Trapped figure — a piece with little or no escape
- Queen attack — queen attacks you can play or must meet
Guest tries: attacked pieces, undefended pieces, knight fork.
